Canon G9 RAW files and Apple Apertrue

I am bummed…  I just got a hold of my brand new Canon G9 compact digital camera.  I love it!  It is truly a joy to use, and it will clearly be a workhorse for many years to come.  It is sturdy, it is quick, it is flexible…and it shoots in RAW.  How cool… Until I went to download the images using Aperture.  Oh.. they downloaded allright.. but then I get a message across each thumbnail that says “unsupported image format”  How maddening!!

It turns out that Aperture does not support the particular version on the .CR2 file that the G9 generates as it’s RAW file.  Who Knew!??

As it turns out, many people knew about this issue.  Somehow in all my searching on the web for information about the G9 prior to purchase I missed out on these articles form O’Reilly,  and The Digital Story

    How did I miss that?

Anyway, I have a little workflow that seems to be working out…  It is hardly ideal but it ought to put me in a good spot when Apple does finally release support for Canon’s G9 CR2 files.
