XO Jabber Servers
I am going to keep track of some jabber servers here that are setup for XO laptops:
- xochat.org
Bainbridge Island - school.letschange.org
Massachusetts area - nejabber.homelinux.org
Also… I think i might set one of these guys up at home. I do have a debian box that I am doing very little with right now.
XO -Laptop
The XO Laptop is small, it is green, and it is cute.
I have spent the last few days with it as my sole computing interface. It has been a bit difficult to use with it’s little green keyboard. I type much much slower, but then, this machine was not made for me… was it?
I have exposed it to 2 and half year old, a 4 year old, and a 7 year old. they gave it a collective good beating. A whole bottle of Dora The Explorer bubble bath was even poured on the machine. after a bit of mopping up, things are still ticking along inside it’s sugary goodness.
This computer is one tough cookie. it will work well on the plains of Africa I expect.
There again, the software seems fantastically adequate for school children and for collaborative work.
I think I would like to see this used in a classroom environment to see first handhow technology integration could be used.
My XO Laptop arrived today
My XO arrived today… man is it tiny and small. But it sure is cute. Anyway, near as i can tell, this little silent keyboard is a hunt and peck, 4 finger keyboard… Man is it small!!
More on OLPC
I am very excited about the One Laptop Per Child project. To that end, I have been doing some web searching and found the following sites… each with some information on the topic.

OLPC
Well… I did it… I just purchased 2 laptops from the OLPC Give One Get One Program. At some point (soon I hope) an XO laptop is going to arrive at my door and I will get to check it out and see just what the little puppy can do. At the same time, some child in Afghanistan, Rwanda, Hati or Cambodia will get a laptop and begin their life with technology as a learning tool.
This excites me… This excites me a lot.
