I was over at my wife’s parent’s place for dinner tonight… My father-in-law mentioned that his computer was acting slow (This is a dual 2.8 P4 we are talking about here.. there is little that is slow about it) I went to take a look and sure enough it was slower that molasses. Ctrl-alt-del did nothing… no task manager, nothing. Hmm… Try to download MS Anti-Spyware… Can’t even get to the web site. Install SpyBot… sure but it took me to a bogus site that installed a bad copy of SpyBot.
What to do…
WMIC… I didn’t think it would work, but it did… I was able to pull up a process list, and kill a handfull of processes that didn’t look right…
Then sure enough, I could get to MS Anti-Spyware. Installed, ran… cleaned… cleaned lots of crap… cleaned some more…
All is well now. WMIC is my friend
