    19 days and counting

So… I got a call on Thursday or Friday of last week from the Apple Store, telling me that my computer was now in Texas and getting ready for repair…

However… I log in today and find that it has only arrived today…  11/7   WTF!!  So I call the Apple Store and Barry tells me that there was a problem with the shipeprs and it only arived over the weekend…

Now It understand that it will take quite a while now to be fixed…

I told him that I did not feel that this was the “expedited service” that I was promised.

He is calling Apple Care Level 2 Support and will be getting back to me today.

    Grrrr   Grrr Grrr

Oh… and here is another story about Apple Care just about sucking!
    Apple Problems and AppleCare Problems

Last:  Barry told me that there were steps that Apple would take to be sure that I am left as a happy customer…  but he would not elaborate on what they were.  I do hope they are taking those steps now… cause I am not a very happy customer.

One more thing…  I should mention that for the most part the folks at the Apple Store (with the exception of Marlon) have been awesome…  so my real beef here lies with the folks in Texas.

    Apple Care Update II

So…  I just brought my computer back to theApple Store...  Marlon the “genius” at the bar took the computer and is sending it back to Texas.  Getting this guy to understand the problem was tricky.  He simply didn’t get that the scratches were not there when I brought the machine to them.  He also did not get that, scratches aside, the repair was not complete because the hinges were loose on the computer.  It had not been reassembled correctly.

I know that I still haven’t gotten the pictures up on the web yet… I am having a bit of trouble with this PC…

Anyway here is a rundown of what is not right about my computer.

    1. The top of the comptuer is scratched badly
    2. The bottom of the computer is scratched badly
    3. The keyboard/trackpad surface is scrathced badly
    4. The rubber bumper that is meant to keep the screen from touching the keyboard/trackpad surface has been ripped off
    5. The left hinge is not securely attached to the comptuer

To top it off…  during what was supposed to be a screen repair only, they wiped my HD…  I have a backup, but it will take time to restore the machine.

And I have now been without the computer for 13 days.  Marlon in his infinate, genius powered wisdom, said that the computer would be back to me in about 14 days.  WTF!!!  Like I can be without this computer for that long!!!  It’s not like I need it to get some work done!

So while I was there, a woman brought in her iMac G5 and Marlon was working on it too… and she asked him not to scratch it…  so I showed her what happens when a computer goes to Texas…  He also told her that she didn’t need to back up her data… they were only going to replace her screen…  I told her to back it up given my experience…

All Marlon could say to this is: that is not typical.

Maybe not typical there Marlon… but in my experience it is fairly typical…  I had another Ti PowerBook g4 when they first came out… It needed to go in to have the CD ROM/DVD replaces about 2 months after I got it…  It came back with some scratches and a wiped Hard Drive..

    I would call that typical.

    Apple Care Update

OK…  Here I am posting some Hi Res photos.  This is the damage to my computer..  Keep in mind that I have babied this thing, and aside from a few micro-scratches on the bottom face, and a little bit of hear from where my watch hits the left front corner of the wrist wrest… there has not been a single scratch on this baby in the almost 3 years that I have owned it.  10 days in Texas and all of my hard work has been changed.

    Apple Care nightmares

My 1.0 GHz Titanium PowerBook G4’s screen began to fail about 2 weeks ago…  So at my earliest convienince I brought it to the Apple Store at University Village and showed it to the geniuses behind the bar.  They determined that it needed to pay a visit to the AppleCare repair center in Texas.  Knowing that would be the case before I went in, I wisely backed up my data.

Off goes my beloved PowerBook for the necessary reparis, which are only a new screen, or a new cable, or a new video card IE: motherboard.  It spends about 8 days on hold waiting for some part… and showes up at my door about 10 days after I gave it to them.

Woo Hoo!!  My computer is back!!!

Open the box… and what do I see????

The lid of the computer (the top surface when it is closed) is scratched all to hell!!  When I sent it in, there was not a ingle scratch on this surface!  and now it looks like somebody set it on a sandy table upside down and spun it around a few times…  Huge, deep long scratches in the form of concentric arcs all across the lid of my precious computer!!

I will take some pictures when I get home tonight and post them here for you to see, then I will be off to the Apple Store to get this situation fixed.

Man am I pissed!!  Oh… and to top it off… they wiped the Hard Disk…  remember I backed up all the data…  but I didn’t have a drive large enough to back up the entire disk… so now I need to spend a whack of time reinstalling programs!!

Oh and the repair??  I got a shiny new screen, that looks very nice…  but the hinges are extraordinarily loose.  What are those folks in Texas doing down there?!?!?

I am not terribly impressed with Apple today.
