    Weekend in Jersey

My weekend in New Jersey was pretty great. Hanging out with friends and the spawn of friends is the stuff that dreams are made of. Right? Anyway, I had a great time just chilling out, drinking a few cold ones, and having some good laughs. All on the cheap too. Heading back to Boston on the Acela now. Hanging out in the quiet car, tapping out this entry.

    Michael Jackson - Dead

Several stars have passed away in the past few days..... But Michael Jackson takes the cake on all of the monitors at SEA-TAC. The sensationalism of the media follows him to the grave.

    Pandora for Blackberry Updates

YAY!!  Pandora is now working on both my Storm and on my wife’s Curve.

Back when I made my first post about not getting Pandora for the Storm, I downloaded it for the Curve and couldn’t get it working.

I got this error everytime I tried to get it working.
“The application pandora$2dradio has attempted to open a connection to a location inside the firewall and outside the firewall which is not allowed by your IT policy”

Strange, since the Curve is not connected to a BES.  It turns out that the Firewall needs to be disabled on the Curve in order to get Pandora working.  Annoying…  Lots.

I am not sure why my Storm is not subject to this same issue, except that the Storm is connected to my BES at work.  Perhaps I set the IT Policy on my Storm to allow split pipe connections.

    No Pandora for Storm

imageImagine my surprise when I was at Pandora.com this evening and saw the above graphic.  Looking closely at it you can see that it includes BlackBerry now…

I immediately tried to download the app for my BlackBerry Storm.  FAIL.  It’s not supported on the Storm yet.

Next I try my wife’s 8830 from Verizon.  I get it installed, and get her credentials in there, but then it too FAILS.  It spun for 20 minutes trying to “sign in.”  I did get an error saying that Pandora was trying to open a connection inside and outside the firewall and that my/her IT policy does not allow that.  Since her BlackBerry is not on a BES, I am not sure whose IT Policy they are talking about.  Verizon’s?  If so, why would the site say they support her phone through Verizon.

    Disapointing.

    Google Mobile Apps for BlackBerry

One of the most convienient applications I have ever had on my Blackberry was the Google Mobile App.  You can get it at http://m.google.com/  It is not yet available for the Storm, which bums me out because now that I have a Storm, I really miss my Google Mobile App.  The storm outweighs the loss however.

Anyway, the beauty of this application is that it places a Google icon on you home screen.  Whenever you want to do a search use the Google icon instead.  It provides you a search field that is stored right on your device, you don’t have to wait for the BlackBerry to go out and download Google’s search page.  It also provides a convenient way to update Google Maps and Google Reader and other Google Apps.

Go get it today at http://m.google.com.  No BlackBerry should be without this.
