Subway
It has been years since I last rode the subway. Seattle doesn't exactly have one, and neither does Tacoma. Last time I did this, people either read a book or listened to their walkman. I look around today and see that nearly everybody is listening to an iPod, phone, and tapping away on a phone of some sort. I guess that puts me in sync with everybody else around me.
Media has taken over our lives. It occupies our work lives, our personal lives, and even the spare cycles in between.
iTunes and the new iPods
John Gurber has a great write up on Apple’s iTunes and iPods. That Apple has released the new Nanos in aluminum casings reminicent of the iPod Mini is pretty great. People were up in arms over the loss of the Mini. Now that they have the look and feel of the Mini combined with the size of the Nano… I think people will be very happy. iPods will be going off the shelf like hotcakes. I suppose they already do that though.
The new iPod Shuffle is intriguing to me now. I could never get behind the formfactor of the original Shuffle. I wasn’t wild about it’s USB drive like shape, nor was I excited about the crappy power selector switch on the back. While I have yeat to touch one of these new shuffles… they appear to be of higher quality construction. I may even pick one up for running. Small, light, and it will clip to my belt.
This may be a time for me to purchase a new iPod.
Apple, iPod, Nike
So MobilityToday has this idea that Apple has been beaten by Microsoft. It seems that Microsoft has put together a system well in advance of the Apple/Nike system. Be that as it may, how can a system that has been in place for 2 years, yet nobody has ever heard of it, be considered beating Apple on a system that is just coming out. Let’s keep an eye on this just to see where it ends up… cause I am interested.
Now… if only the Apple / Nike system integrated with FitnessJournal.org... Now that would be sweet!
Rockbox for my iPod?
Rockbox is a replacement for your iPod firmware. It looks pretty exciting if you want more out of you iPod, but I am pretty satisfied with mine just doing what is meant to do… and it does in well in my opinion. I will stick with Apple’s firmware for the time being.
